Chania-White Mountains Primary CryoNet Station Information
The National Observatory of Athens has initiated in late 2017 an effort to perform in-situ snow and radiation measurements, by installing two weather and snow stations at high altitude of the main two topographic features of Crete, namely White Mountains and Psiloritis. The station data are presented through the following web pages: http://stratus.meteo.noa.gr/stations/snow_chania http://stratus.meteo.noa.gr/stations/snow_anogia
These two stations are providing valuable information on snow height over Crete, but the necessity of the network expansion all over Greece is obvious and it can be realized only through the operation of a nation-wide network of snow stations. This network is called SNOWNET and these two stations are the fist phase of SNOWNET setup and operation.
