Observational Requirements
The formulation of GCW observational requirements is an ongoing process. They will draw from various sets of existing user requirements and will be vetted by the scientific community. They will become part of the WMO Rolling Review of Requirements (RRR) and will be accessible through the Observing Systems Capability Analysis and Review Tool (OSCAR), which has a cryosphere theme. OSCAR is the official source for WMO requirements. The IGOS Cryosphere Theme Report (see Documents) contains the most comprehensive set of observational capabilities and requirements for the cryosphere. It is the starting point for GCW. The IGOS and OSCAR cryosphere requirements are given below. In addition to the observational requirements listed below, the Polar Space Task Group (PSTG) is compiling user requirements. They are available on the PSTG website.

Use the checkboxes and lists to filter the results. You can select multiple variables by using shift-, control-, or command-click combinations. Multiple selections within a row mean "or"; selections across the rows mean "and". For example, if snow depth, sea ice extent, IGOS and CliC aare selected, all entries that are snow depth or sea ice extent and either IGOS or CliC requirements are displayed. No selections for a row is identical to checking all boxes in that row. Leave everything unchecked and click Filter for all database entries.
